QNAP NAS Requirements

September 12, 2025

There are several requirements that must first be met in order to use AhsayOBM on QNAP NAS. These requirements, in no certain order, range from Hardware and Software requirements, Add-on Modules, and the settings of QNAP itself. For more details, please see each of the requirements below:

Hardware Requirements

Refer to the following link for the hardware requirements and list of supported QTS version:

Hardware Compatibility List for AhsayOBM v10 on QNAP NAS

AhsayOBM Installation

The latest version of AhsayOBM must be installed on the QNAP NAS machine. All other requirements for AhsayOBM must first be met however for a successful installation and optimized experience.

Currently, v10 is the latest version of AhsayOBM.

NAS - QNAP Add-on Module

Make sure the NAS - QNAP add-on module in your AhsayOBM user account covers the backup of your QNAP NAS.

QNAP Add-on Module

The NAS - QNAP add-on module allows for the backup of unlimited number of QNAP NAS devices. However, each new AhsayOBM installation on a QNAP NAS device will require an additional AhsayOBM device license. Please contact your backup service provider for more details.

Backup Quota Storage

Please ensure there is sufficient storage quota allocated on your AhsayOBM user account to accommodate the data from the QNAP NAS device.

Please contact your backup service provider for more details.

Java Requirement

Oracle Java JDK files are needed in order for AhsayOBM to run correctly.

In AhsayOBM v10, the Oracle Java JDK files are already included and deployed as part of the AhsayOBM installation.

Memory Requirement

The default Java heap size of AhsayOBM installation on QNAP NAS is 256 MB. It is recommended that 1 GB RAM or more is installed for stability and better backup / restore performance.

TCP Port Requirement

By default, the QNAP NAS machine uses TCP port 32168 for the WuiService.

TCP port 32168 must be free on the machine. Otherwise, the AhsayOBM client will not start and its backup and/or restore functions will not work.

QNAP NAS User Account Permission

The QNAP NAS user account used for the AhsayOBM installation must be a member of “administrators” user group.

Control Panel

The QNAP NAS user account belongs to “everyone” user group, select AhsayOBM to Display on “Every user’s menu” in the App Center.

App Center

After login with the user account belonging to "everyone" user group, you can find the App in the user's menu.

Network Bandwidth

Due to the nature of how AhsayOBM performs its backup/restore operations, a speedy network connection is needed to ensure a quick and optimal way of backing up your data. Thus, a minimum connection speed of at least 10 Mbps or above is needed.

QNAP NAS Settings

Ensure that the following requirements are followed to be able to launch AhsayOBM:

  • Web Server must be enabled

Go to Control Panel > Applications > Web Server, tick the "Enable Web Server" checkbox then click Apply.

    Control Panel

  • Web folder must be included in the Shared Folder list
